Trying to find a hotel to stay at in Vancouver can be a daunting
experience. Lots to choose from, but pretty pricey. The Sunset Inn &
Suites offers some terrific value. The hotel is well located, close to
Burrard Street Bridge. It was only a few blocks to the water and beaches
leading towards Stanley Park. The hotel is a block off of Davie Street,
close to coffee shops and restaurants.
Parking is included in your room rate - a rarity in downtown. There is
also a bike locker in the underground parking which was a nice bonus.
Free wi-fi available.
I stayed in one of the king executive rooms and it was very spacious.
Tons of closet space, plus a work desk, dining table and chairs, and a
kitchenette. There is a continental breakfast included, but it is pretty
limited. Toast, bananas, coffee and juice boxes. Grab some fresh bagels
and cream cheese from Siegels bagels in Granville Island Market instead.
I would definitely stay here again.

I have stayed at the Sunset Inn and Suites on two different occasions
and found the room rates reasonable considering the proximity to English
Bay and Stanley Park.
However, the front desk personnel definitely needs improvement in terms
of both friendliness and demeanor towards guests.
Even though I do believe this is a good place to stay, I would think
twice before staying here again due to the lack of hospitality exuded
from the front desk personnel.

We stayed 9 nights at the Sunset Inn. We were very happy with our
decision to stay there. The location is great, especially for people who
like to walk. The Inn is located on a quiet, tree shaded residential
street, yet it is close to downtown, neighborhood restaurants & stores &
the ferry to Granville Island. We walked to Stanley Park & across the
city to the Convention Center. One night while we were there, we were
able to watch the Celebration of Light fireworks show just a few blocks
down the hill at Sunset Beach. Our room was at the back of the Inn; I'm
not sure but I think guests in the upper suites facing the Beach may
have been able to watch the fireworks from their balconies.
We had a car & we were able to park in the secure underground parking
lot each night. There are 3 parking areas & the parking was explained to
us in detail when we checked in - how to access the parking from the
alley, info about the 3 lots, etc. There is a guest laundry room & ice
machine near the parking garage.
We stayed in an executive studio on the 9th floor. Our room faced the
alley but because we were high up, we also had a view of the skyline &
the mountains of North Vancouver. We didn't have a problem with any
noise from the alley. There were 2 smallish elevators.
We were in Vancouver during a hot spell & our air conditioner kept our
room cool - & it was reasonably quiet. The kitchen had a refrigerator,
stove, microwave, toaster, dishes, etc. but no dishwasher. There is a
table & chairs for eating but no "seating area" - you had to sit on the
bed to watch TV. The dresser & closets provided us with plenty of
storage space. The lighting in the bathroom could be brighter but there
was plenty of light in the rest of the suite. The bed was comfortable; I
didn't like the pillows. There was a small patio with 2 chairs & a small
table. The suite had a recycling bin for bottles & cans under the sink
in the kitchen & a separate recycling bin for paper - I thought that was
great & wish more hotels would do that.

The staff was very helpful, the room was newly renovated and very clean.
The kitchen is equipped with everything but a dishwasher. Nice attention
to details: ie. small bottle of Scope in the bathroom.

Our stay at the Sunset Inn and Suites for 3 nights in mid-July started
out a little iffy, but ended up being a very nice experience. We arrived
by car to find that there was no obvious designated area to pull in to
register and no parking spaces open anywhere along the street. Only
after my husband dropped me off to go in and enquire while he drove
around the block did we learn that there actually was a designated area
for loading and unloading, but it was in use at the time, so it wasn't
visible to us. There was no signage whatsoever, other than the name on
the building itself. Once we managed to check in, we were able to park
our car in the hotel's free secured parking area, accessed from the
alley behind the building (again, no signage; not recommended for a
large vehicle). We got into our 9th floor executive studio room to find
that the window air conditioning unit was noisy enough that it would
have kept us awake, so we asked to be moved another room (fortunately,
we had not yet unpacked). Other than the AC issue, the executive studio
room would have been fine; fairly spacious, nicely equipped small full
kitchen, large closet, nice bathroom, small balcony facing the city
skyline and mountains in the distance. When there were no other rooms
available in our price category, the desk clerk gave us a free upgrade
to a one-bedroom suite, #701.
This is where the nice experience began. #701 had a very roomy living
area with sofabed, easy chair, TV and DVD player, spacious desk, dining
table for 4, entryway closet, balcony with partial view of English Bay,
and fully equipped kitchen. The bedroom featured a very comfortable king
bed, more closet space, small safe, second TV. Bathroom was smallish,
but had a good amount of counter space for the size and was kept very
clean. Nice decor throughout. Would be very comfortable for a group of
4, or even 5, if some were small children. The central AC unit, located
on the balcony, worked fine.
Front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful with restaurant
suggestions and directions. They also let us use their computer to print
our boarding passes the night before our departure. Continental
breakfast in lobby was sparse, but it worked for us (plan on taking it
back to your room, as there is no seating area in the lobby).
If you stay here and the view is important to you, opt for rooms on
upper floors, or at least on the front of the building. Lower floors on
the back look out on a rather depressing urban alleyway. Overall,
though, the Sunset was a very good value for the money. Booked it
through www.Allure-Hotels.com

Stayed here at the start and end of our 5 week holiday . Pleasant staff.
Upgraded on second visit. Suites have everything you need. Great
location, everything within walking distance. Superb Greek restaurant
around the corner, may have to queue but worth the short wait.

We were surprised how nice the inside of these suites were and great
value for money. Well equipped and nicely decorated. I had booked two
lower floor suites, not realizing the difference between that and the
higher floor suites. Upon arrival, one suite was upgraded but not the
other. Both had the same view, just 7 floors apart. Higher floor suites
had a/c units on the wall in both rooms and a window unit - lower floor
suites had a noisy window in the bedroom only. Disappointed with the
view of a seedy back alley. Continental breakfast was ample, but served
in the hallway. Had to take it back to our suite on a tray. But that was
ok. Front desk staff were generally a little frosty! Dave was the
exception - hilarious! Very honest about the area, which was extremely
busy and diverse on a Saturday night! Not really the place to be with a
young teenage boy. But such is life! At least we had free parking and
still enjoyed our visit to Vancouver!

Couples Great location, great room, great value. Just a short walk from
Davie Street's bars and restaurants. Also a short walk from the beach.

We came here and while ago and loved the Sunset Inn so much that we are
going to stay there when he head back to Vancouver in June. There are
four of us and the suite gives us enough room to get over our jetlag and
get grounded. The brekkie was a wonderful welcome, something for
everyone, it was the little things that made it great like real milk for
the coffee and not instant coffee the "real stuff" Whilst the hotel
looks a little old, the location is superb, great to shopping and to a
variety of different restaurants, and the price is right.
