Pros-
The location of this hotel is it's greatest asset. It's within minutes of most
of Vancouver's major attractions yet outside of the horrible traffic and drivers
in downtown. There are supermarkets, food courts, restaurants, and public
transportation all within walking distance. The staff was pleasant. When I
called the front desk for ice it was brought up immediately and he did not
linger for a tip.
Cons-
The rooms are aging and repairs/upgrades seem to be on the cheap. Small quirks:
broken main a/c (had a portable unit the room), old (but functional) fridge,
broken tv remote, and no privacy door hanger. Beware the parking lot. There are
numerous hazards such as poles and outcroppings that are painted the same color
as the walls. Normally hazards such as these are painted a bright color. Almost
all that I passed had paint scratches on them.
If you can over-look the small quirks of an aging hotel room the location of
this hotel is hard to beat. Parking is $20 a day. While I did enjoy my stay I
don't feel that the price matches the quality of the hotel.

There were so many positives about this hotel that being out of the city center
barely matters. The new SkyTrain just a block downhill whisks you to center in
10 minutes and the bus stop is just a step away, both for a wee fare.
The ATM is across the street in a small shopping center with the Safeway, fruit
store, and free WiFi in the food court.
The front desk always responded with a smile. Even the housekeepers were
friendly! The buffet breakfast was very nice, and the chef will be happy to cook
your eggs to order.

I spent 8 nights at the Plaza 500 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The
staff are knowledgeable and courteous. The rooms have lots of windows so there
is lots of light and ventilation. The views of the city and mountains are
stunning! (Be sure you be a city view room.) I was in room 1006. There was
virtually no noise from within the hotel but it is situated on two busy streets.
I found that the traffic noise was similar to the rush of waves when staying on
a beach and did not find it bothersome. You could close the windows if you are
sound sensitive. The restaurant has nothing for vegetarians but there a White
Spot and a mall food court are across the street. All in all a great experience!

I like to save money when I travel, but I also want cleanliness and comfort.
This hotel was great especially after I read the horrible reviews. Our room
(suite on the 12th floor) was large. Big queen bed, walk in closet...adjoining
seating area, refrigerator, microwave (which we requested) and fabulous views of
the entire and mountains We took advantage of the Safeway right across street to
buy a few groceries, and as the bus picks up right outside of hotel, we have
been travelling ALL over the city seeing everything (bus is cheaper and more
efficient than taxis--buy passes at 7-11). The hotel staff is friendly and
accommodating. They helped us to navigate our travel plans. They quickly
assisted us with any problems or questions which came up. The television in the
room is a little small (not like my big screen at home). Overall, I am greatly
impressed with our room and the hotel which I only paid $85 per night for a room
which would usually be $150 per night. I would stay here again, no problem!

We stayed here because we were doing the Vancouver marathon and needed a cheap
place to stay for the night. It was very close to the starting line, which
worked out well for us, but very far from the downtown, which is a bummer if
this is your first trip to Vancouver. Since we live in Seattle, we didn't care
about that. The hotels staff was very nice, allowed us to check in early and
leave late, so we could recover from the race. The rooms are old, but we had a
nice view of the mountains and a comfortable bed. Nothing amazing, but nothing
horrible. Parking is expensive, especially for location being so far from
downtown. Would not recommend this hotel if you want to be downtown or dont have
a car to get around city. Otherwise, its average but safe and clean.

The staff was great! The room was nice and big, and clean but some what
outdated. The bed was not comfortable. The bed was really hard and that is not
what I am use to. Needless to say I did not sleep. The windows need to be redone
because you could feel the outside temperature (freezing) 3 feet from the window
and thus you could also hear the road noise and construction going on outside. .
The location is good as well. I have found this Hotel to be nicer than a lot of
Hotels that cost more, and have much, much smaller rooms.
