I chose this hotel simply from an online referral, and I could not have been more pleased. This small hotel has quite a European feel, and has an art emphasis--some floors are decorated with artifacts from the Pacific Northwest native tribes, while others focus on different artists.

The staff was very helpful and considerate. They gave good recommendations for dining and directions for shopping. The hotel is located within walking distance of the Vancouver Art Gallery, as well as all the good downtown shopping areas. The restaurant, O'Doul's, had an excellent menu and great wait staff.

We had a great stay at The Listel Hotel in beautiful downtown Vancouver. I got a deal on www.allure-hotels.com  and we couldn't have been happier. We had booked for the Museum floor and got upgraded to the Gallery Floor. The room was clean and roomy. It was a bit dated but the space was amazing and the service we received was wonderful. As well the size of the TV was great big and easy to view from anywhere in the room. Being on the Gallery floor we got either fresh coffee or lose leaf tea delivered to the room when we wanted it. (we just had to fill out the form in the room). We has a great stay. We didn't eat at the in house restaurant but the area is not lacking in selection of restaurants with in steps of the hotel. We had a great stay and most certainly would stay here again.

This hotel is in a great location and the staff are very helpful. However, we stayed there twice during our honeymoon trip and had problems with the rooms on the second floor both times. The first stay saw us in a room that faced on to a brick wall and had a really tired bathroom, but it was okay. The second visit, we were right next to the vents from the restaurant below which were exceptionally noisy and asked to be moved. They had another room on the same floor which was quieter, but the bathroom looked like it was pre-war.

Having said that, the hotel is very clean indeed, provide great coffee in the room, has a nice bar with informative tenders on the ground floor and -as I said - is in a really handy location.

I get the impression that if you go higher up the hotel the rooms get much much better, so worth bearing in mind when booking.

my husband and i stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much.
the location is convenient to most attractions -- Stanley park, English bay, the fish house restaurant, etc., and is well-located on Robson.
the staff were also very personable and helpful.
i would return and recommend the Listel to family and friends.

Had a great room on the Museum floor. Especially loved the huge - I mean huge - flat-panel TV on the wall, perfect for viewing from the bed. Really cool was also a USB port for charging my BlackBerry. Delightful staff, both at the reception and in the attached restaurant. The only point for improvement I could think of would be to design the bathroom as one room instead of the currently separated toilet/bath and sink areas.

Couples My spouse and I were attending a concert at the Commodore so wanted to stay overnight in a hotel. I searched online through many reviews of downtown hotels and went with something that seemed upscale, cozy and fairly priced.

The room rate was $117 for the gallery floor which seemed like a decent price. The mandatory valet parking ended up being $24 per day. We also had a last minute change of plans and our friends needed a place to stay as well so we switched (via telephone before our arrival) from a king bed to two queen beds instead. Upon checkout we were informed that the extra two people in the room amounted to $60 extra. SIXTY EXTRA?? I wish we had been informed about this extra charge (the hotel had lots of opportunity to advise us). Nothing was said upon our check in or our friends check in.

We ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict room service the next morning. It was OK. I asked for soft eggs, they were hard. The potatoes were cold. The hollandaise was a bit gritty. NOT worth the $15 PLUS mandatory 18% gratuity charge. A $40 breakfast? Wow.

I did like the noon check out time and appreciated the art pieces in the hotel lobby area. I would not pay extra for the gallery room -- we had 3 pieces of average looking art in our room.

So overall, we started out with a $120 hotel and upon checkout had a $280 bill. Yikes!

From the outside the hotel didn't look inviting. Kind of 80's, with brownish windows. From the inside it's totally different. The lobby is nice, arty, spotless. The staff is amazing, maybe the most professional and helpful staff I ever met.
We had a reservation for a Standard 2 queens room on the 2nd floor (at a great rate through www.allure-hotels.com ). Earlier check in was no problem. We had to wait some time, but the staff made sure we got our room asap.

The room looked nice and clean, recently renovated, with a flatscreen tv, fridge etc. But... it faced the 'alley' behind the hotel. What we saw: ugly 10-15 story buildings, garbage cans and a homeless guy with a shopping cart, looking in the garbage cans.
We like to sleep with open windows, so when we heard the noisy a/c unit from the back of the restaurant adjacent to the hotel we asked for another room. That was no problem at all.
The 2nd room also faced the same alley, only there was some kind of electrical or water pump kind of thing (really don't know) that sounded like a constantly running engine.
We felt terrible to ask for another room (I guess we were the staff's worst nightmare...), but again, that was not a problem. We upgraded (+ $20) to a room on the highest (6th) floor (616). I guess the $20 extra was for the higher floor, because the room was not recently renovated, there was no flat screen tv and we noticed orange mold in the shower.

We spent the 1st of 3 nights in this room but didn't sleep well due to the same noisy a/c from the restaurant that we even heard on the highest floor. And we woke up early from noise around the garbage cans outside.

The 2nd and 3rd night we slept in 617, which faced the street. We could even see the water. It was a 1 king bed room, but much nicer, cleaner, less worn out than 616. We didn't care about the street noise and were happy that we weren't bothered by the buzzing a/c.

The valet service ($24/day) is very fast. The guy who works during the day turned out to be from the Netherlands (where we live)...so we spoke dutch. Nice. He recommended a couple of streets/areas we might like. He even left two cookies in the car when we checked out.

When the wireless internet didn't work properly one of the staff members immediately brought a cable and arranged assistance from the internet company (that fixed the problem).

We booked the Listel because we wanted a good hotel in a nice neighborhood with coffeehouses, shops and restaurants. When we arrived we were disappointed. Robson Street is a weird conglomeration of expensive shops, cheap restaurants, good and bad hotels, tourists, totally dressed up girls and homeless people. One day around 6pm we saw a guy peeing on the sidewalk.
Pro: There is a Starbucks on the other side of the street, a Capers (organic food) and a Saveway a couple of blocks away. Skytrain a 10 min walk away. The art work in the lobby, the hallways and the rooms is nice, but on the other hand....it doesn't add comfort to the visit.

The hotel itself is great, we felt welcome. But -for us- the hotel and the neighborhood just didn't match. So...yes, we would recommend the hotel to people, but we would tell them about the neighborhood.
The next time we would probably not come back and choose a hotel in a quieter, nicer location instead.

Hotel is located on the quieter end of Robson Street. Everything you need is there. The art gallery is only a few blocks away. We had a wonderful view of the waterfront and the main street.

I was a bit disappointed we were not notified that we had to pay for parking. Although it's our fault for not checking but it would have been helpful if I was notified that the price for the hotel did not include the parking fee.

Roomy suite for under $200.00/night. New, modern bathroom. Farewell cookies. Complementary French Press coffee delivered to your room each morning.

I liked the look of the Listel when we drove up: Modern, clean mid-rise hotel. Lobby is small but good-looking. When we got to our room, I was disappointed and asked to see another room with a better view (we saw the top of the hotel roof and the dim sum restaurant across the street), but there were none. The carpet looked like it could use a cleaning and the furniture, while at one time may have been nice and modern, was now a bit worn -- again, the light upholstery looked like it needed a cleaning and the bench where we put our luggage was rickety and had stains on the cushion. However, the bathroom was lovely with modern fixtures and a wet room with a soaker tub and shower. Since I'm all about the bathroom, I decided I could put up with the dingey upholstery. By the end of our 3 day stay, I did comment to my husband that I did like the roominess of our suite and the desk in the corner for our computers and the big closet. All and all I'd recommend the Listel although if I were to stay in Vancouver again, I might opt for a hotel closer to Burrard and Georgia Streets. I liked Robson, but liked the area closer to Vancouver Museum a bit better. When they brought up our car, there was a pretty package wrapped up on our dashboard with 2 cookies inside -- nice touch.

I went to Vancouver to meet up with my husband while he was there for work. Our first night together we stayed at the Hyatt as that is where his conference was. For the rest of our long weekend we moved to the Listel not wanting to pay the outrageous cost for the Hyatt! Having stayed at the 2 different hotels in Vancouver, I strongly recommend the Listel over the larger chain hotel!

The Listel was trendy but welcoming at same time! The staff was very friendly and approachable! My husband and I are not very "artsy" but appreciated the local art displayed through out the hotel! I especially enjoyed the complimentary french press coffee delivered directly to our room in the morning and the free upgrade to a room with an ocean view!

I was a bit concerned our room might be noisy as it over looked Robson St but this was not an issue at all! Also felt O'Doul's restaurant not all it was cracked up to be, although we just dined there for breakfast only.

Over all Listel was a perfect choice for our Canadian get away!

This hotel is perfect for the Vancouver tourist. It's fairly small -- only six floors -- and yet the rooms are very spacious. The decor is tame and modern, not gaudy as you might imagine a so-called 'art hotel' to be. The gym is down a flight of stairs and has the standard equipment plus a spa (warning, though, it's a little creepy to work out alone at night). Inside the rooms are free wi-fi, microwave, flat-screened tv with dvd player, a mini-bar, and a land-line telephone (the hotel gives you three hours free of long-distance calls!--especially valuable if you're from the U.S. and don't want to pay roaming charges). Service staff is great, and they'll convert small amounts of U.S. dollars to Canadian. Bed sheets don't have that tough linen feeling; they're even softer than our Seattle hotel which boasted 'high-thread count sheets' (lulz). Finally, location is key as you're within walking distance of Stanley Park and in downtown; hell, we even walked to Gastown and Chinatown without fatigue. I highly recommend this distinctly Vancouver hotel, especially given the decent pricing.

The Listel was so very accommodating especially for our group of four rambunctious young adults. The hotel itself is very stylish and modern, but beautiful. Our room was on the Museum Level, and had a nice view of apartments which we took advantage of. Some may find this disturbing, but there were many people who could see into our rooms from their apartments! For us, catching peeping toms in the act trying to spy into our windows became a large source of entertainment for us later in the night! Other than that, of course, haha , The Listel is also very close to shopping, food and nightlife. Not so much nightlife, but there are a few spots. We loved every minute of this classy place and will definitely stay again. Also the people who work at the front desk were always very kind and welcoming.

My family enjoys staying in a hotel the night before taking a flight. We tried many different hotels in Vancouver and Richmond but none have made me want to write a review until we stayed at The Listel Hotel. First class service right from the moment we arrived at the front door. A highly trained and skilled front door man by the name of Marinho was there to treat us with honor and respect. He insisted on taking our things, parking our car and explaining how their top notch service works. He was incredibly helpful throughout our stay and so was everyone else. We were treated like VIP's at The Listel Hotel and I would never consider staying anywhere else while in Vancouver.

I have stayed in this hotel many times over the years and it's still a great stay. It's centrally located on Robson Street, walking distance to just about anything of interest in downtown Vancouver, and just a few blocks from the SkyTrain. Artwork is really the focus of the Listel, the room decor is wonderful, especially on the Gallery Floor. What we really like is the daily wine reception in the lobby. Service is top notch. The O'Doul's restaurant was undergoing renovation the night we were there but it should be done by now. Thanks for another great visit!

I booked this hotel for our 2nd night in Vancouver. The first night I just booked a cheaper one, as we were only using it for limited hours and didn't see the point in spending more. Well the Listel was only about 30$ more and was a difference between night and day. I don't have to much $ to spend as a student but this hotel was worth it, with the online prices/specials though!. It was a great location for shopping -on Robson- , dining, and a quick taxi ride to Granville, on the bus route, or a 10 min walk to the sky train.

Upon arrival the front desk was very courteous, polite, and helpful. I asked for a king size when we got there but there was none left, and to make up for it he put me in one of the nicer standard rooms on the 2nd floor (note my reservation said a queen so this was no fault of theirs) . One of my biggest memories still, is the aroma of the room. They use aromatherapy everything, for lotion, shampoo, conditioner... the smell was wonderful and lingered lightly throughout the room. The room was also very clean, and full of all the extras you may need -or like- including the flat screen on the wall and fully stalked mini bar, nuts, snacks, reading material, etc. There is also an optional quick-order breakfast card for your desired time. And a complimentary French press coffee-or tea delivered to your door in the morning, also at desired time.
Check out was also a great time, 12pm, instead of the standard 11pm. They even gave us an extended check-out to suit our needs. We didn't have time to check out the business center or fitness area, but we did use the internet in our room. Wireless was a little slow, so we asked for a cord to plug in at our desk, with no problem.

All in all good stay, look forward to the next one.

the staff where friendly and helpful and the hotel is nice but the bed was very uncomfortable and lumpy in our room. We then checked three different rooms until we found a bed that might be better but still had a terrible sleep on this lumpy old mattress. For what I paid for this Hotel room compared to other hotels of comparable rating these beds are unacceptable. At least in Mexico where the beds are about the same the weather and tequila make up for the discomfort.

Comfortable rooms, good restaurant/bar, satisfactory amenities, good location, good price. If you want to stay downtown, don't want to spend a bundle, but still want to stay in a nice place, you can do a lot worse than the Listel. I'll be back whenever I travel to Vancouver.

I've stayed at the Listel twice now on business, and both times it's been a very pleasant experience. Tastefully appointed rooms, a good bar, reasonable prices, and excellent location all contribute to an overall more-than-satisfactory stay.

The Listel is located downtown on Robson Street. Although I didn't get much of a chance to do any exploring, there are plenty of good places to eat and drink in walking distance, and the area has a good downtown vibe to it. There's a nice mix of business and residential buildings in the area.

It's also close (10-minute walk) to Skytrain, which I found to be a good way to get places around the city (and much cheaper than a cab). Make sure you know which line you're on and which direction you're going, though; it can be confusing at first.

I've stayed in both Museum and Gallery level floors; both are stylish and well-appointed. Both rooms had a large work station, which was important since I had a fair amount of work to do. The beds and linens were high quality, bathrooms were small but pleasing, and everything was very clean--cleaning staff definitely gets high marks. If you want to run up your minibar tab, there are a wide variety of drinks and snack that will help you accomplish that. (There was even a "lover's package" container in the minibar; I'll leave its contents to your imagination. Useful if you're traveling with your spouse or love interest; not so much if you're by yourself, although be it far from me to judge.)

The rooms are very quiet--always a bonus.

Odoul's, the restaurant, has a good bar with friendly staff. There's frequently jazz playing in the later evenings. It's a comfortable place to get a drink and unwind, and the guys behind the bar are attentive and make a good gin and tonic. There are some decent beers and wines by the glass, and the wine list does a nice job of highlighting local vintners while providing plenty of alternatives from Europe, Australia, Washington, and California. The food's pretty good, too.

You can get both wired and wireless internet access. I found the wired to be much faster, and I always bring my own cable so I didn't have to get one from the front desk.

Generally, it has pretty much everything the typical business traveler needs.

We stayed in this hotel on a snowy Jan weekend. Reception was swift and we were given our room keys after filling out our forms.

The room was great! We had two queen sized beds, night table, a nice office desk, flat panel TV, a cozy sitting area by the window, internet, bar, and a coffee maker. It was quite modern, and we discovered that it was because the rooms were recently renovated. The bathroom still had remnants of the old design but nonehteless it was clean and functional.

The nice thing about this hotel is that it has art installations in the room and in the hallways. We were greeted by steel sculptures at the elevator lobby and also by a nice store-window type decoration at the elevator lobby as we stepped off at our floor. Inside the rooms there are art pieces that had descriptions of both the artwork as well as the artist who made it.

It's close to the stores along Robson St., and has a good proximity to the restaurants and cafes, but I'll make it a point to try out O' Douls (their gound floor restaurant) next time I go there.

We stayed at the Listel for 2 nights in January. Stayed in a gallery room on the 5th floor- was very nice. Bed was comfortable, huge TV, clean bathrooms, and very quiet. We were able the check in early as well as store our luggage before we left the city after we checked out. Complementary pot of coffee was great in the morning. Great location on Robson, close to everything. Great pieces of art through out the building, dancing sculptures were my favorite. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! Hotel staff was helpful and professional. Both check-in and check-out were swift. I didn't really have any challenging requests, so I don't know how they'd handle those.

We checked in very late with no problem. They were helpful and friendly which was especially nice when we were tired and needed rest! The Listel is attractive and funky with art surprising you around every corner. Even the luggage cart was sculpted metal.

Price was high, but maybe not compared to other hotels in the area. There wasn't much there that wasn't expensive.

Our room was great - comfortable, clean, terrific view, and a "balcony" big enough for a party!! We loved it. It was also in an ideal location to grab food at midnight when we arrived and again in the morning before we had to take off.

By the way, we were leaving for a cruise and one of the staff took it up on himself to confirm our boarding pier without us even asking him to. It was extremely thoughtful and a big help to us!

We stayed at the Listel for just a couple of nights. The staff were friendly and polite, and the room was smart and a decent size. It was nothing special, but the Hotel Location was good - walking distance to downtown, Gastown, and Stanley Park. We didn't try the restaurant as we didn't see many vegetarian options on the menu, but it looked smart/"comfortable" and not too pricey.

This review is a little late - I stayed for my honeymoon last August for a week & absolutely fell in love with the Listel! Perfect Hotel Location for walking all over & right near the Hop On Hop Off Tour bus, which was great for us. Bed was comfortable, bathrooms great & we had a nice high view. Everyone working there was courteous & helpful. We especially looooved the food at O'Douls. We had a bed & breakfast deal at Listel & enjoyed breakfast everyday as well as 2 dinners while listening to live jazz.

Loved the "artsy" feel of the hotel. We have recommended it to several people who are going to Vancouver this year & I know we'll be back there very soon. Thanks Listel! Maybe we'll see you on our 1 year anniversary!
