Review of the Best Western Richmond Inn

Overall this hotel could be updated. I'd really like to see a better parking
system and somehow more of it. The staff has been very friendly, though and the
beds are not bad for getting a decent sleep.

I hate incompetence. I worked at a front desk before and there is really no need
for misinformation. Just keep a book with all pertinent answers to questions at
the front desk and add to it as necessary or better yet, put the extra info
online so customers can read it themselves! I'm back on the soapbox about pet
policy!
This time I asked all the right questions beforehand. Because a king bed
couldn't be reserved (?!?), I could only request it upon arrival. When I
arrived, I was told that there were no king beds available and that I should
come down in the morning and ask again. In the morning, I was shocked to find
out that all the pet-friendly rooms only had double beds! This issue could
easily have been answered when I originally phoned in (or when I checked in) and
mentioned both the size of bed and type of room I wanted.
Again, had to sign a pet waiver once I arrive at the hotel that contained the
clause "won't leave pet alone in room." Okay, I get that places have had issues
with animals destroying the room and this may be a stock form, but put a link to
it on the hotel's web page under the "pet-friendly" icon. The room was
specifically block booked for a conference. Big implication here that I won't be
in my room!!! I could have made other arrangements for my pet if I had known the
particulars of this policy in advance. And to top it off, the hotel charged an
extra $20/night for having a pet. I don't know who they sent the bill to for all
the pet mice that were running around during the night.
We moved our food to hangers in the closet so the mice wouldn't get at it. Rooms
with fridges are an extra cost so we didn't have one.
No issues with housekeeping or cleanliness. The bed was comfortable. Wireless
was free plus there were four hotel-provided computers for patron usage. Front
desk staff was quick to bring a kettle for tea. Fruit, lemonade, and cookies
were provided at the front desk. Alcohol was atrociously overpriced ($7/beer).
Hotel staff didn't mention that the hot tub was closed for repairs, nor were we
advised of any other hotel amenities. Perhaps these were all closed as well?

Just a few comments. I actually stayed at the Hilton next door but went to the
Best Western for sessions for the conference I was attending.
They are currently renovating the hotel, which makes it very confusing to get
around. To access the conference rooms in the west wing, you have to cut through
the hallway of the rooms on the first floor. The signs were not the best at
providing directions and to get to the boardrooms, you had to go outside into a
rabbit warren of temporary fencing underneath the parkade to get to the rooms.
The temporary lobby is crowded but staff seemed to be still servicing the
customers. While cutting through the hallways to get to my sessions or to my
hotel on three different occasions, I could hear housekeeping staff talking very
loudly or even yelling at each other while they were working on rooms throughout
the hotel. Seriously, I don't know how anyone could get any rest if they were
trying to sleep during the day. I'm just very glad I was staying at the hotel
next door rather than

We really like our stay there, very nice lobby and large room even for
our family of four. A couple of shopping centers were located within
couple of blocks. There's business center where you can
access via room key around the clock. Service is quite good
I just don't like the fact they will impose a 10 dollar parking fee.

Got a good price from Priceline so that was great. A good hotel for a 3
star. Nice and clean, comfortable, quiet during the weekdays, especially
for being on the 2nd floor but nosier on the weekend. Housekeeping
wasn't as good during the weekend. Didn't fully clean as hair was still
on floors, left their dirty rag, forgot to refill coffee but would
recommend if looking for a cheaper place to stay that's in a safe
neighborhood. No continental breakfast but has a microwave and stove so
we were able to buy a few things for ourselves during our 1 week stay.
Not as good as the Downtown Best Western in Vancouver (on Drake) but was
still one of the better ones I've been at.
Close to a lot of things, including, mall, airport, restaurants, etc. but
not as convenient if you'll be spending most of your time in Vancouver
(vs. Richmond). All in all, a good stay if all you need is a bed and
don't expect a whole lot.

We booked this hotel on the flight/park free program. We'd be staying
there on the way back because the flight did not get in until around 1
am. I'd booked them several days before departure, on the CAA rate of $
125 and got a confirmation email. On admission (i.e. parking the car) we
were told it was $ 149. While we contested this, we didn't have time to
argue as we had to catch the hotel-shuttle to the airport. We figured we
would take care of it on the way back. Also, we'd asked if a chilled
bottle of white wine could be ready in our hotel room, we figured it
would be nice after a flight of several hours.
Upon admission - around 2 am - we asked if the wine was there, were
assured that it was. No - checked the fridge and phoned the front desk -
"are you sure"? Then the desk-clerk (ESL) phoned back a couple of
minutes later saying that we had had the wine during our previous stay
before the flight - we had trouble explaining that we hadn't STAYED
before the flight. Then about ten minutes later his supervisor phoned,
saying that sure she could get the wine but it wouldn't be chilled
because she couldn't get access to the restaurant's fridge at that hour.
We decided okay, what the heck, even warm wine could be okay. Then we
had to wait about another half-hour for that, and we were all set to
phone and tell them to forget it.
Then the next morning at 8 am the fire alarm went off. Hey, I'm not
faulting a hotel for this, it happens, and better safe than sorry. But
we'd had about four hours sleep by this time. We'd originally planned
to sleep till about 11 and have a leisurely brunch in their deluxe
restaurant. But by this stage, we figured we weren't giving these people
any more of our money. Not too long afterwards - we were awake anyway
and just checked out. We did ask "the fire alarm, was there any
concern?" and just got "oh no, false alarm, no worries!" (I'd kind of
hoped so, since it was about 1 1/2 hours later).. But it would have been
nice to have had a comment such as "we are sorry, it was a malfunction
in the electrical system and we apologies if it disturbed your sleep".
My husband already wrote to the general manager and got no response. Our
next step was to write to BCAA. |
